Program Planning + Evaluation

Moms on the Move — my qualifying exam includes an article critique and a full public health program and evaluation plan. My program focuses on increasing physical activity among Latina women in Los Angeles County (LAC), California.

NATAL — my thesis was written by myself and three of my colleagues, demonstrating my ability to work effectively in a professional team. We developed a program to increase access to prenatal health education among pregnant residents of Service Planning Area Six in LAC.

Health Communications + Media

Health Communications Research Project — I designed a research study to understand how mental health influencers communicate about perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) on Instagram. I examined communication domains using theoretical models and developed a coding instrument to measure the frequency in which these domains occurred. Using the results, I formulated audience segments to better understand who is most likely to consume this health information and how to reach them effectively.

Advocacy Work

Comprehensive Advocacy Plan + Budget — me and three other colleagues developed a legislative strategy to address postpartum depression (PPD) in Southeastern Idaho. This project demonstrates my ability to work effectively within a professional team and create client-ready advocacy deliverables. Some of the sections I drove more specifically include the issue identifications, community advocacy, and root cause analysis.

Letter to the Editor — I wrote a letter to the editor of a New York Times article about PPD advocating for including specific signs and symptoms in their publications.

Letter to Elected Official — I wrote a letter to Assembly Member Wicks of California supporting Bill 583: Birthing Justice for California Families Pilot Project.
